MCC Projects

The Christian Service & Social Concerns Committee is stepping in where the Ladies Groups left off in regards to filling project needs for MCC.  They hope to promote a different project quarterly throughout the year.  The MCC project for APRIL, MAY & JUNE was:

Health Kits

Health kits are often presented to children in refugee camps who do not have access to hygiene supplies.  Some are given to women in rural education centers to encourage health care.  Countries receiving shipments include Mozambique, Haiti, Nicaragua, Colombia, Venezuela, Bosnia, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine, Armenia and the West Bank.

1 toothbrush (adult size, leave in wrapper)

1 squeeze-tube toothpaste (minimum 100 ml / 6 oz, leave in box)

1 bar soap (90-140 g / 4-5 oz, in wrapper)

1 fingernail clipper

1 hand towel (larger than fingertip, dark color)

Please limit your generosity to the contents above; place contents in a fabric double drawstring bag 8" x 11".

Please note that lists and some bags can be found in the plastic bins in the foyer.  If anyone would like to make drawstring bags, contact the committee.  Sewing instructions are on the MCC website, donated fabric is in the downstairs table storage area.

The MCC project for JULY/AUGUST/SEPTEMBER was:

School Kits

School kits are MCC's most requested item.  They are given primarily to refugee children, helping students and teachers add some normalcy to disrupted lives.  Countries receiving shipments include Afghanistan, Angola, Liberia, Bosnia, Haiti, Nicaragua, Colombia, Russia, Ukraine, Serbia, North Korea, Iraq and Palestine.

4 spiral notebooks or notebooks with perforations (8.5" x 10.5") (70-80 sheets each)

4 unsharpened #2 pencils

1 ruler (flexible plastic; indicating both 30 cm and 12")

1 box of colored pencils (12-20)

1 larger pencil eraser

Place contents in a fabric double drawstring bag, 11" x 16".

Please note that lists and some bags can be found in the plastic bins in the foyer.  If anyone would like to make drawstring bags, contact the committee.  Sewing instructions are on the MCC website, donated fabric is in the downstairs table storage area.

The MCC Project for OCTOBER/NOVEMBER/DECEMBER is:

Newborn Kits

MCC distributes newborn kits to hopitals, clinics and orphanages.  Countries receiving kits include Haiti, Honduras, Angola, Nicaragua, Palestine, Serbia, Ukraine and Russia.  Newborn kits with pre-cut pieces are available for purchase by contacting your local MCC office.  Note: Nylong and nylon fleece are NOT suitable fabrics.  Items can either be purchased or handsewn.  Packages of pre-cut materials are available from some MCC offices.

(NEW items only, size 3 to 9 months)

2 gowns/sleepers (lightweight cotton)

2 undershirts/sacques/onesies (sleevless or short or long sleeves)

4 cloth diapers (flat-folded preferred)

1 receiving blanket (lightweight cotton or flannel, minimum 60 cm / 24")

4 safety pins (5 cm / 2")

1 bar mild soap (minimum 85 g / 3 oz)

Remove packaging material (except soap) and fold into the receiving blanket.  Fasten together with the safety pins.

                                                             CHILDREN'S STORIES

We are always looking for volunteers to do Children's Stories/Features: a few Sundays in July and August, and once per month for the rest of the year.  Please let the Secretary know if you are able and willing to share a story with the little ones!

                                                              SCRIPTURE READERS

Another good way to get involved in the worship service is to read scripture.  Thank you to those who share with us by reading scripture each Sunday morning.  Some people also find this an opportune time to share personally with the congregation.  If you've been missed and are willing to read, please contact the Secretary.

                                                        SUNDAY SCHOOL / KIDS CLUB

Sunday School and Club will be resuming in fall.  If you like to teach children or lead adults in their study of the Bible, please talk to the coordinators.  I'm sure they have an opening for you!

La La La La...MUSIC La La La La...

Are you musically inclined (voice or instrument)?  Our church has a wide array of musical groups and opportunities to share: from solos, groups and choirs to Sunday mornings, weekly events and special programs.  Talk to the Music Committee and they'll fit you in where you feel most comfortable!

                                                        PROGRAMS / BIBLE STUDIES

Our church shares outside the congregation on a weekly / monthly basis.  There are opportunities to bring programs to several different retirement homes, and to share the Word in Bible Studies in Rosemary, Brooks and Siksika.  Talk to the coordinators of our Christian Service & Social Concerns Committee or the Pastor.

                                                                      HANDS ON

If working with your hands is more your thing, we've got plenty of jobs for you!  Talk to the Property Committee or Cemetery Committee if you'd like to be on their volunteer list to help out when needed.  Projects may range from helping maintain the cemetery to major construction work at the church.  If you'd like to try a 'working holiday' talk to our MDS (Mennonite Disaster Service) Representative to find out when and where your help is needed (all over North America).

We also have three women's groups in our church called "Routes" which help with all the food events in our church.  If you've been missed in asking if you'd like to join a Route, please contact the secretary, and she'll put you in touch with a Route Boss.  The more the merrier!
